Circus animals, treated well or not?

For a very long time now I have wondered how circus animals are treated. Are they taken care of and given the space, love, care and attention they deserve?

I think space is out of the question. I believe that in most cases the animals have very little space in which to live. Even with some zoos I have personally visited over the years, I have seen animals pacing back and forth glassy-eyed staring blankly into space.

As for love, I would assume that this would depend on who actually has the animal as well as their personal feelings toward it. I'm sure that not every keeper is cold-hearted and cruel but I'm sure there are some who's primary concern is making money with the animals in their care for as long as they can.

Care and attention is dodgy in some instances as well. It seems very cruel to put an animal in a small cage and expect it to flourish as if still in it's natural habitat.

It's nice to think and hope that all circus animals have it made and are taken very good care of but I personally have my doubts.

Some years ago, I recall seeing some zoo animals in small cages standing in dirty straw that obviously needed to be changed. The animals looked so sad and miserable, I cried.

One of the keepers asked in an annoyed voice what was wrong with me. I explained. He told me again in a rather annoyed voice, that these animals were taken better care of there with the circus than they would have been had they been left on their own in their native lands.

Somehow, his explanation just didn't wash with me. I knew better. I stood staring at him and with a wave of his hand, he dismissed me and walked away without another word. I felt empty somehow and very sorry for the animals.

It's a shame that animals are still often thought of as commodities rather than gifts of nature that we can learn from. But we must take care of them and see then as they are.

There is an interesting article in the Telegraph on circus animal welfare that begins, "A ban on using wild animals in travelling circuses because of welfare concerns is not supported by the scientific evidence, a report for the Government has found."

i agree. i have to make a debate on how animals are treated poorly in the circus. i totaly agree as u can see i am only in primary school and i thnk that they should be let out in the wild to live happily ever after......
THE END.......d[-_-]b...hahaha ...my debate is coming on really well and i hope u can here it one day so u can a gree....actua;ly i think i might put it in....
MY DEBATE.As speaker, one said animals are living creatures. They should not be treated as if they do not have a life. Being held in captivity will not have a positive effect on the animals. One day they wont be so calm about being held captive and will discide to start a rampage infront of innocent viewers. In many cases that poor animals is killied after storming out of the show. Living creatures are not features they are not here to perform for our pleasure.

Seeking revenge may also be a top priority In this case. Having to wake up early and performing for human pleasure, may operate some feelings in side, which could eventually result in physical violence. People laughing at them may also make them feel embarrassed like when we are laughed at. How would you feel being dressed up in funny outfits not knowing whats going on and performing infront of hundreds of people. Living creatures are not features.

There was a beautiful elephant called Arna who performed in the stardust circus who crushed her trainer. She obviously decided to hurt her trainer after many years of cruelty and unjust workings. Mr Williams was found dead in the elephant enclosure just before 5pm with Arna standing over him. This elephant has been in the circus for many years and was trusted by her owners. The circus still decided to keep touring even though mr Williams was killed.

Animals have feelings too. some days days they feel bad and somedays they feel great. Somedays they don’t want to perform and we should respect that. God created the jungle so animals could live peacefulling in the jungle without distress. Living creatures are not features.
If we keep treating animals like this, making them perform without having a say, there will be more animal related accidents in the circus. We obviously shouldn’t stand here and watch those animals suffer under those harsh conditions we should do something. Living Creatures are not features. They need to be set free. Keeping the animals away from all that human contact could keep animal safe and you.

The circus is definitely not a place for animals
